PLAN AND PURPOSE
The Lord went on to describe to Dr. Burt what His plan and purpose would be
for Word of Faith-Hattiesburg:
1. A ministry that would be totally submissive and led by the Spirit of God.
2. It would recognize Jesus Christ as the Head of the Church.
3. Serve as a strong tower by which those who are unsaved could run to and
come into the knowledge of Jesus the Anointed One and His Anointing.
4. A ministry where All the Gifts of the Spirit would be in operation and, therefore,
provide a well-balanced spiritual diet.
5. Minister to the entire family: adults, youth, children, and infants.
On January 12, 1997, Word of Faith-Hattiesburg opened its doors. Sixty-six people attended the first service in a local motel. Within the first year, the ministry grew from six charter members to 100 and the ministry successfully implemented the Toddler Nursery, Children's Ministry, Faith Food Book Store, and the Tape Ministry. Word of Faith Hattiesburg outgrew the facilities where they were and had to move to a larger facility in Petal, MS. The membership grew to over 140. Other ministries such as Women of Virtue directed by Pastor Toni Burt, Men of Valor, Generation 6:20 Youth Ministry, Generation 6:20 Campus Ministry , CIC Singles Ministry , Couples-In-Covenant Ministry, Layperson's Bible School, Laurel Teaching Center, Ride Provider Service, and the Outreach Ministry have been added since then.
The ministry quickly outgrew its Petal facility. In September 1998, the Lord opened the door for Word of Faith-Hattiesburg to purchase 3.5 acres of land with an administrativeoffice building already on site. Construction of our present 200 seat sanctuary and classroom space was completed in March 2000. Praise God!!! The first service was held on Sunday, March 4, 2000, with Bishop Butler and Pastor Wright as guest speakers.
Dr. Burt believes that practical application of the Word of God to one's everyday life is the key to victorious living. Therefore, his ministerial emphasis is on teaching principals in a way that are clear, accurate, and concise.
Word of Faith-Hattiesburg began January 12, 1997, with ten members, half of whichwere children, and now has a membership of more than 600 people and is continuing to grow daily.
In August 1993, Dr. and Mrs. Burt, led by the Holy Ghost, moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to begin their medical practice. Over the next two years, their medical
practice, which was their ministry, grew and became very successful. However, in 1995, the Lord spoke to Dr. Burt while in prayer and instructed him to begin a Bible
Study on Saturday afternoons in his office. Quickly, over the next few months, it began to grow. In 1996, Dr. Burt accepted the call to the fivefold ministry as a Teacher.
The Lord spoke to him clearly from Hosea 4:6, " My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge ." Impartation of revelation knowledge to the Body of Christ would be his primary calling.
Over the next year, Dr. Burt would serve on the ministerial staff under the leadership of Pastor Kevin E. Wright of Word of Faith-Jackson. This was familiar ground since Dr. Burt had been a member of Word of Faith-Detroit since 1988 under Bishop Keith A. Butler. While serving faithfully under Pastor Wright, God spoke to Dr. Burt and gave him a mandate to open up Word of Faith-Hattiesburg.
STATEMENT OF FAITH:
What We Believe and What We Preach
That the bible is the divinely inspired Word of God.
THE HOLY TRINITY
In the Trinity of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
All have sinned and come short of the glory of God and are in need of salvation.
Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men.
THE HOLY SPIRIT
That the infilling of the Holy Spirit is an experience subsequent to salvation, and is the
Will of God that all be filled.
THE HEALING POWER OF GOD
Healing is provided in the redemptive work of Christ and is available to every believer.
The church consists of all those who have received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.
There shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and unjust.
In the personal, visible, imminent return of Jesus Christ.
In water baptism, and the observance of the Lord's Supper.
