Our Story

"Preaching the Gospel. Teaching the Word. Reaching the World for Jesus."

Word of Faith Christian Center began January 12, 1997, with ten members – literally, five adults and five children. Our membership has flourished into more than 850 people and is continuing to blossom. In August 1993, Dr. Orlando Burt and his wife Pastor Toni, were led by the Spirit of God to move from Detroit, Michigan to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to begin their medical practice. Over the next two years, the practice continued to grow and became very successful. However, in 1995, the Lord spoke to Dr. Burt while in prayer and instructed him to begin a Bible study on Saturday afternoons in his office. As the months went by, the Bible study took off!

In 1996, Dr. Burt accepted the call into the five-fold ministry (found in Ephesians 4:11-13) as a teacher. The Lord spoke to him clearly from Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Impartation of revelation knowledge to the Body of Christ is his primary calling. Over the next year, Dr. Burt served as a minister at what was then known as Word of Faith Christian Center in Jackson, Mississippi (now Faith4Life, Jackson). This was familiar ground as Dr.Burt has been a member of what is now known as Word of Faith International Christian Center (which is under the leadership of Bishop Keith A. Butler) since 1988. While attending and faithfully serving at Word of Faith Jackson, God mandated Dr. Burt to open Word of Faith Christian Center Hattiesburg and the rest is history!

Our Mission

"Preaching the Gospel. Teaching the Word. Reaching the World for Jesus."

Our Beliefs

Our foundational scripture is Romans 10:8 which says, "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;" (KJV)

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God and are in need of salvation. Salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men. It is a free gift that cannot be achieved through good works or deeds, but only through faith and confession that Jesus is Lord and belief in their heart that God raised him from the dead as stated in Romans 10:9. (Jon 3:16; John 3:36; Romans 10:8-13; Romans 3:23; Acts 4:10-12; John 14:6; John 10:7-11; Acts 16:30-33; Titus 3:5; Ephesians 2:8-9)
The Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God, given by God and recorded by men. We also believe that the 66 books are correctly intended to form what we know as “the Bible” today.
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
We believe that marriage is ordained of God and is a union between one biological man and one biological woman. (Genesis 1:27-28; Proverbs 18:22; Leviticus 18:22; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 1 Timothy 1:9-10; Jude 1:7)
Physical healing, not just Spiritual and emotional, is provided in the redemptive Work of Christ and is available to every believer. (Isaiah 53:4-5; 1 Peter 2:24; Psalm 103:1-3; Mark 16:17-18)
Water baptism is a biblical command that every believer should follow, however, it is not the cause of or absolutely necessary for a person to be able to receive salvation. In fact, it is to be done AFTER a person ask and accepts Jesus Christ into their heart. The act within itself is a symbol of repentance, death to sin, and rising up into a new, righteous life. (Mark 16:16; Matthew 3:11; Romans 6:1-18; Colossians 2:12)

The infilling of the Holy Spirit is an experience subsequent to salvation. We believe it is the will of God that all be filled with the Bible-evidence of speaking with other tongues and having spiritual gifts. (Acts 2:4; 1 Corinthians 14:27-28; Mark 16: 17; 1 Peter 3:21; Acts 2:38; Titus 3:5; Matthew 3:11; Acts 20:28; Acts 10:44-46; 1 Corinthians 14:1-40)
Members of the Trinity of God – the Father (God), the Son (Jesus), the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19; John 10:30)
The Church consists of all those who have received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. (Ephesians 2:20-22; Acts 20:28; Matthew 16:17-18; Ephesians 2:19-22; Ephesians 4:16; Ephesians 1:22; Hebrews 3:6; Revelation 19:7-9)
There will be a personal, visible, imminent return of Jesus Christ and a bodily resurrection of the just and unjust shall occur. The Lord will come and claim His church and remove them from this earth before the “Great Tribulation” period. No one but God the Father and Jesus (the Son of God) know when the rapture is going to take place, but the Word of God tells us to be prepared at all times. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Matthew 24:42; Revelation 3:10; Mark 13:32; 1 Corinthians 15:52; Daniel 12:1-2; Matthew 24:29-30; Revelation 7:14; Revelation 13:5; Matthew 24:14; Revelation 19:1-21)
We believe in the observance of the Lord’s Supper and set aside at least one day each month to put it into practice during church service. The purpose of communion is to remember and appreciate the sacrifice of Christ dying on the cross for our sins. (1 Corinthians 11:24-29; John 6:53-58)
